meet kiara flowers

I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I attended arts focused public schools and had the priviledege to study at Milwaukee Ballet, as well as perform in local musical theater productions. After graduating high school, I auditioned for a role as a character performer and dancer at Walt Disney World. I was offered a position and moved to Orlando, FL that summer where I was able to pursue and enjoy my passion for theater, dance, and music for six, beautiful years. While at Walt Disney World, I interacted with guests of all ages and abilities and learned the real power of magic. During my last year in Florida, while playing characters and performing, I was introduced to yoga, and established my own practice in an effort to reconnect to myself. I found myself in crowded, hot rooms amongst a community I felt I had been longing for, searching for.

I moved back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2017 and registered for a 200-hour yoga teacher training to expand my understanding of the practice, as well as become a teacher to share what I had learned with others. I completed my training in June of 2018 and quickly began teaching. Through my own self-study, I found myself drawn to an Ayurvedic lifestyle, and attended the California College of Ayurveda in 2021, where I completed the Principles of Ayurvedic Medicine program. I also completed a prenatal yoga certification program in 2022. I continued to learn from Amy Pearce-Hayden, the co- author of Living the Sutras, during my years living in Madison, Wisconsin. I hope to expand my knowledge under more experienced yoga teachers as my time with the practice continues.

My teaching has certainly evolved as I have continued to explore the depths that yoga has to offer as a lifestyle, philosophy, and foundation for learning. Initially, I was drawn to teaching a faster paced vinyasa class. I went on to adopt Ashtanga yoga as my personal practice. Eventually, I integrated the complete opposite, restorative yoga, into my teaching and fell in love with the slower pace of the practice, as well as the more internal focus that is fostered. My teaching changed further when I began to study more alignment and functional movement focused ways of teaching. For several years, I helped to facilitate an after school and summer school yoga program for elementary age students, as well as created core curriculum that included themed yoga asana classes, yoga storytelling, craft projects and social-emotional development. In many ways teaching children has brought me even closer to the practice and the true self. I am always working to integrate my teachings into my daily life and inspire others to do the same. I hope to continue to carry this knowledge forward with accessibility and compassion.

I moved back to Milwaukee in 2023 teaching primarily at the rock climbing gyms in the city. I am also a studio manager for a very sweet studio in Lodi, Wisconsin. I provide education to both teachers and members through our newsletters, as well as social media. I have used this platform to share yoga philosophy and cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment for all people to benefit from the entirety of what yoga has to offer. Balancing teaching in person classes and managing a studio, I was able to make my entire income in 2024 from yoga – to say I am overwhelmed with gratitude would be an understatement.

In my time away from work I enjoy reading, journaling, cooking nourishing food for people I love, getting my hands dirty gardening and making pottery, traveling and hiking. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from you and grow with you.
